Festival inspiration: International Women's Day
The inspiration for La Fiesta is to provide a platform to celebrate International Women's Day [IWD] which is commemorated annually on 8 March.
IWD began in 1911 and is recognised by the United Nations as a day of international significance. It is celebrated as a national public holiday in almost 30 countries - in some, it is for women only! IWD acts as a point of reflection for gender equality. Whilst progress has been made, there is still much to do globally to ensure that all women and girls have equitable access to basic human rights, and to live free from all forms of violence and discrimination.
La Fiesta enables a month-long opportunity for our community to activate a focus on women and girls. It also provides opportunities to celebrate, connect, and champion them.
